This is not just a hat, it is a work of art, it is a canvas that holds the indigenous memory of the Colca Valley in Peru.
Made entirely by hand in wool felt and covered with meticulous embroidery of tiny stitches in cotton and wool thread in the traditional manner of the Colca Valley. Each hat takes months of work.
The hat, in these communities, is a symbol of belonging that identifies the woman who wears it as a member of a community. It speaks of her social status, whether she is single or married, and is usually a family treasure passed down from generation to generation.
Each hat is a statement of memory, identity, and living tradition. The embroideries tell a story.
If you look closely, you will see hares, which in Andean tradition symbolize fertility and agricultural abundance, as well as agility and cunning.
Hearts are not a modern Western symbol. For Andean culture, it is an emblem of life, affection, and community union. They also signify family and marital bonds.
Stylized birds are messengers between the earthly and spiritual worlds. They signify transcendence and connection with the heavens.
Flowers evoke fertility and joy of life, as well as cyclical renewal.
Geometric figures are pre-Hispanic protective amulets. Triangles are linked to the protective power of mountains, and arches and diamonds to cosmic balance and order. Concentric circles allude to cosmic protection and cyclical renewal.
The little houses that appear embroidered evoke the importance of home, roots, and the sense of protection and belonging. They connect the human with the earth.
The yellow radial flower symbolizes the sun (inti).
Zoomorphic figures such as small llamas or alpacas are symbols of wealth and sustenance.
These hats combine value as an artistic piece, investment value of time, precision, and dedication in manual embroidery, and value as an amulet, a connection with Hanan Pacha, the spiritual and celestial dimension, as a symbolic map, as a microcosm of Andean magic. They are a language, they are art, they are tradition, they are magic, they are beauty…
This hat is adapted to size M, but I can adapt it to the size you need.
