Bag made entirely by hand by an indigenous community from Papua New Guinea. This community lives in the Southern Highlands, in the province of Mendi, in the village of Pangia.
Their customs are deeply rooted in the land; their life is that of gatherers/hunters. They wear practically no clothes. Their worldview is very similar to that of Australian aborigines. They share much of their mysticism and mythological legends and their connection to nature.
These bags are made completely by hand. Not only the weaving of the bag but also the spinning is totally artisanal and primitive, without the use of a spinning wheel or loom. The knots and finishes that prove their authenticity can be appreciated.
This bag is made with natural fiber from the trees of the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.
Its original use was to carry babies on their backs while the women worked. Now it can be used as a durable shoulder bag.
