The rudraksha is especially linked to Shiva. Its very name from Sanskrit “Rudra” is a form of Shiva’s name and “aska” meaning tear identifies it as “tears of Shiva”
Rudraksha malas are normally used for japa, the repetition of mantras, in Shaivite traditions. That is why they have 108 rudraksha beads.
This particular mala is strung on red thread, also very characteristic of devotion to Shiva.
This mala was purchased at the devotional stalls in Haridwar, a sacred city in India, during Shiva celebrations, which gives it special value.
The beads are irregular, typical of true rudraksha.
