This garment comes from Gujarat. It is widely used by nomadic tribes who move through Gujarat and Rajasthan in India. It is entirely hand-embroidered, incorporating mirror crystals into the embroidery. These are authentic museum pieces dating back over 100 years. The embroidery is of unparalleled quality, something only these women can achieve with exquisite tension.
It is a wonderful garment to wear layered over wide-leg pants or a long skirt.

These Kurtas are more than just clothing. In Indian culture, mirrors are worn to ward off evil spirits or energies and to attract light.
In this case, and although I don’t like to alter them too much, I have decided to touch up the original design a bit to make it more comfortable, stylish, and wearable. I have removed the sleeves, widened the armholes, and opened the side seams to give it more fluidity.
In this case, this Kurta has the same ornamental richness on the front as on the back.
