Ring from the Saharan regions of Tunisia with Tuareg and Berber influence
It is an antique ring made from an alloy of brass or bronze. It is not malleable, so it can be adjusted while open, but the metal is very hard, so the adjustment should preferably be done by a professional or with the right tools.
The bezel or top part is seal-shaped. It is beautifully chiseled with a burin. The representation is of a camel or dromedary engraved probably on Onyx.
The ring is, therefore, an amulet seal. Camels are a symbol of resilience and adaptation for North African cultures. These rings were often used as protection for travelers as well as personal seals.
